The attractive village of Selborne and its beautiful countryside is famous for its association with the eighteenth century naturalist Gilbert White. In his book The Natural History of Selborne, he meticulously records his observations on the plants, birds and animals of this lovely part of Hampshire. The parish of Selborne also includes the neighbouring villages of Blackmoor and Oakhanger, each with their own unique history.
The parish of Selborne is surrounded by the most beautiful countryside, yet is easily accessible from the A3, M3, A31 and A27. There is free parking in Selborne village car park which also accommodates coaches. You can view a map of routes to Selborne. You can also click here for the bus timetable ( route 72 / X72 ).
You can also find out more about the parish and its circular walks by picking up an Exploring Selborne leaflet designed and produced by the Parish Council and Hampshire County Council. These can be found in the Post Office, Selborne Arms and The Queens Hotel in Selborne, The Red Lion and Springfield Nursery in Oakhanger and Blackmoor Farm shop as well as the local tourist information shops in Alton and Petersfield.

Take a leaf out of Gilbert White's book and take your time with your observations: you will be rewarded with an enjoyable experience. |
